"Ask Me Anything About Silicon Valley and America", Batu Bungan School, Mulu, Sarawak, Jan 2023
Sekolah Kebangsaan (National School) Batu Bungan is a primary school situated near the magnificent Mulu Caves in Sarawak, Borneo. This school plays a vital role in serving the local communities, including the Penan people residing in the area. Like many primary schools in rural regions, SK Batu Bungan faces unique challenges such as limited resources, infrastructure, and access to quality education. Nevertheless, it serves as a crucial platform for students to acquire foundational skills and knowledge.
In line with the International Relations Outreach program, STEMBoost has made a connection with the esteemed and generous principal of SK Batu Bungan. Through this collaboration, we aim to organize a meet and greet program with the students. Our primary objective is to introduce these young learners to the world of technology, fostering their exposure and knowledge in this rapidly evolving tech-driven world. By providing them with such opportunities, we aspire to enhance their competitiveness in the future.
This collaborative effort between STEMBoost and SK Batu Bungan reflects our commitment to fostering global connections and promoting equitable access to education and technological advancements. Together, we strive to create a brighter future for these young students, enabling them to thrive in the dynamic world of technology that lies ahead.

PC Development Project with MACO to develop open source ThinClient software enabling 200 thin clients to be repurposed for rural schools, May-July 2022, Malaysia
MACO, which stands for Medical Awareness Camp Outreach, a non-profit in Malaysia, runs a Computer Empowerment Program in Malaysia aimed at helping underprivileged communities. The program refurbishes used computers and provides them to rural schools, bridging the digital divide and expanding access to technology for students in those areas. By providing refurbished laptops and PCs, MACO helps bridge the digital divide and ensures that students have access to technology for learning and development. Through their initiative, MACO aims to empower students and enhance their educational opportunities by equipping them with the necessary tools for digital literacy and academic success.
Upon discovering MACO through our international outreach program in early 2022, we were deeply inspired by the meaningful work they do. Recognizing the impact we could make, we decided to extend our assistance to them during the summer of 2022, including 6 weeks of software development work. Our collaborative efforts have successfully equipped rural schools in need, supporting MACO's mission. Additionally, we actively engaged in activities promoting MACO's initiatives, fostering awareness and engagement with their cause.
