Fifth Annual Summer Workshops

Thank you for your support! We are excited to continue our part in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.  Our summer workshops will be online and the proceeds from our workshops will be donated to local hospitals on the frontline in this battle against COVID-19.

About our Workshops

Supporting our Local Hospitals Battling COVID-19 
In these challenging times, we've decided to offer our summer workshops online this year and we will donate the proceeds to hospitals on the front lines battling the COVID-19 crisis.
Expert Instructors
Almost all of our instructors are high schoolers who are alumni of the Kennedy Science Olympiad team and have competed at the Science Olympiad National Tournament. We're excited to share our passion for science with younger students through these workshops.
Wide Range of Topics
We're excited to offer new Math and Physical Science workshops this summer, in addition to offer our popular workshops which cover a wide range of different topics and fields. Feel free to sign up for whichever ones interest you!

Intro to Python Part 1

Description
Python is one of the most commonly used programming languages today and is easy for beginners to learn because of its simplicity. In this 1-week class, students will learn the fundamentals of Python including variables, iterables, control flow, and an introduction to functions through hands-on instruction. Throughout the course, we will use the Turtle library which integrates drawing on a canvas to practice the topics. No programming experience is necessary. We will be using Google Colab as our platform; the only requirement is a personal Google account.

Intro to Python Part 2

Description

​Biological Science Primer: High School Biology Preview

Description
​This workshop series is for incoming freshman at Monta Vista: The 9th Grade Biology Preview, taught by high-performing Biology students, consists of 7 workshops. These workshops are offered to give soon to be high schoolers an overview of the 9th Grade Biology course in order to ease the stress most people feel when entering high school, as well as boosting one’s knowledge of the subject and decreasing the amount of content one has to learn during the school year. Biology is a fascinating and complex field and it shouldn’t have to give a student anxiety or stress, thus having knowledge and confidence surrounding the subject going into high school will greatly improve one’s overall mental health.

Intro to CyberSecurity (Registration is now open!)

Description
If you’ve ever wanted to know if hacking in real life is really like how it is in the movies, this is the course for you. From hooded vigilantes to white-collar officials, the world of hacking is wide and diverse in fiction, but just how much of that can be applied to real life? This set of 6 mini workshop sessions is intended to give students an introduction to the world of cybersecurity. These classes are aimed towards students with no prior experience, and will provide them a foundation in operating Linux, exploiting websites, cryptography, steganography, and OSINT(Open Source Intelligence). The courses will also feature a hand-on lab for each topic, which the students may continue to work on outside of the lecture.

​Biological Science Primer: Fundamentals of Human Anatomy & Physiology

Description
​This course provides an in-depth learning of Human Anatomy and Physiology. You will have an introduction lecture on general Anatomy and Physiology and learn about 10 major body systems. This course is taught by highly-qualified Science Olympiad National Finalists. Join to learn more about how your body works!​

Description
