Topics:

Cybersecurity & Digital Forensics                     Instructor: Gavin Lo, Kennedy Gold alumnus and State Champion of Meteorology,
Team Captain of cybersecurity CTF ID0X team, placed 2nd national & international

In the age of the digital world, cyber crime is growing ever more prevalent. How would you protect against cyber criminals and find data hidden by them in places lower than what meets the eye? In this workshop, we will discuss the basics of cybersecurity, along with how to find information hidden in images, internet logs, and hidden files. We will also touch on how to prevent your passwords being cracked. Bring your own laptop, and download all the links from https://frontier.id0.one/workshop/ prior to attending. This is an all practical workshop.

Slinky Simulation                                  Instructors: Iris Xia, Kennedy Gold alumnus and State Champion of Meteorology
Flora Huang, Miller Black alumnus and Medalist of Dynamic Planet

Have you ever experienced an earthquake? Have you ever wondered how the large earthquakes of Japan and California have collapsed cities and even caused tsunamis? In this workshop, we will discuss earthquakes and the underlying mechanisms that cause them. Students will use slinkies to model their own earthquakes and see if their buildings can withstand earthquakes!

The Molecules of Life                          Instructor: Ria Kolli, Kennedy Gold alumnus and State Champion of Food Science
From delicious food to lifesaving medicines, the products derived from living organisms are essential to our lives. Discover more about the overlap between chemistry and biology, and explore the role of these tiny biological molecules in the functioning of large, complex organisms. Extract DNA from strawberries in a fun, hands-on activity.

Martian Discovery                                 Instructor: Diana Qing, Kennedy Gold alumnus and State Champion of Reach for the Stars

Is it possible for life to exist on planets other than Earth? Explore the properties of Mars, the “Red Planet” to the right of Earth in our own solar system, and learn whether the water, ice, and sandy atmosphere of Mars is suitable to inhabit life. Make your own martian sand and see its hydrophobic characteristics when placed in water.

For both workshops: All materials will be provided, students can bring a notebook/pencils to take notes if they wish.
