Summer Session 1 Workshop Descriptions

Epidemiology: What's COVID-19 Really About?
Taught by Deetshana Parthipan
Coronavirus is literally shaking our world up right now! But the truth is that there is a multitude of research in the field of public health and epidemiology that teaches us how to effectively deal with pandemics! Learn all about the principles of epidemiology and get some insight on how to rescue the world from COVID-19!
Oceanography

Taught by Flora Huang
Learn about the processes that shape our coastlines and ocean landforms, as well as the components of our oceans.
Star Life Cycle Trivia
Taught by Daphne Guo
Discuss the stages of life of the stars in the sky.
Physics of Electricity and Its Applications
Taught by Leela Srinivas
Learning about the physics of electricity and its application.
The Neuron

Taught by Grace Kuo
How good is your memory? How does your brain process visual stimuli? Have you ever wanted to learn more about your brain? Neuroscience is the perfect place to do that! Students will learn the basic anatomy and physiology of the nervous system.
How the Chemical World Works
Taught by Ryan Li
In this class you will learn about the basics of chemistry (including topics such as density, phases of matter, acids and bases, solubility, and equilibrium) and how they can be used to explain various phenomena in our daily lives through fun and interesting demos.
Tracing Genetic Inheritance
Taught by Angela Zhang
Ever wonder how physical traits and genetic diseases can get passed on from generation to generation? Well, here you'll find out. Join me as we study a multitude of methods used to pass on DNA from your parents to you.
Constellation Trivia (Part S1)
Taught by Daphe Guo
This is a continuation of "Constellation Trivia" from spring, but attendance of that course is not necessary. Students will learn about basic astronomy concepts and the history, myths, and notable features of twenty-five constellations. Part 1.
Constellation Trivia (Part S2)
Taught by Daphe Guo
This is a continuation of "Constellation Trivia" from spring, but attendance of that course is not necessary. Students will learn about basic astronomy concepts and the history, myths, and notable features of twenty-five constellations. Part 2.
The Moving Earth
Taught by Amol Rama
Learn about the study of the Earth beneath us - how it is consistently moving, reshaping, deforming, being created, and being destroyed. Learn how features from the Himalayas to the San Andreas Fault were formed.
The Science of Being Happy (Part S1)
Taught by Iona Xia
Learn about the misconceptions of being happy, what causes your brain to percieve this, and how to add more habits that will allow you to be more happy.
The Science of Being Happy (Part S2)
Taught by Iona Xia
Course Learn about the misconceptions of being happy, what causes your brain to percieve this, and how to add more habits that will allow you to be more happy.
Building Paper Towers and Mechanics
Taught by Gavin Yu
Introduction to mechanics and structure design.
Regression Models
Taught by Jai Sharma
Regression is used all around us. From weather predictions to finance, and even predicting supply and demand in markets, regression has become a natural part of our everyday lives. Join me as we find more about what regression is, how it is done, and discover several types of regression models. As a takeaway, you will even learn to create your own regression model for forecasting stock prices in this class.
Under the Sea
Taught by Amol Rama
How do we know what goes on under the sea, and what goes on there? I’ll be discussing how scientists were able to map the seafloor and observe sea life directly. Also join to learn about exotic animals only found at one location - the deep dark sea.
Moon Mining and Lunar Base
Taught by Aseem Rajopadhye
Upcoming Artemis mission and race to Moon mining

About our Workshops

Supporting our Local Hospitals Battling COVID-19
In these challenging times, we've decided to offer our spring workshops online this year and we will donate the proceeds to hospitals on the front lines battling the COVID-19 crisis.
Expert Instructors
Almost all of our instructors are high schoolers who are alumni of the Kennedy Science Olympiad team and have competed at the Science Olympiad National Tournament. We're excited to share our passion for science with younger students through these workshops.
Wide Range of Topics
In parallel to the many different scientific disciplines explored in Science Olympiad, we're excited to be offering 22 different workshops covering a wide range of different topics and fields. Feel free to sign up for whichever ones interest you!

Please feel free to send us an email if you are interested in joining us.
